Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,
Tomorrow we enter a very new territory with our students regarding remote learning. We wanted to reach out to you before Tuesday to fill you in on some information and hopefully answer some questions that you may have. We understand this letter is lengthy, but we appreciate you taking the time to read this thoroughly. If you have any questions or concerns after reading this document, please email us.
In an effort to ensure that our students do not fall behind in meeting the education standards defined by the State of Ohio, students were asked to take all books home on Friday and will access their coursework online via Google Classroom and various other digital platforms. Students should be accessing their coursework daily Monday through Friday. We will be posting notes, instructional videos, homework and any other work there. Students are required to check in daily to fill out the Daily Starter and check for new assignments or announcements. As a parent/guardian, you can also be granted access to Google Classroom. Your student can add you as a “guardian” allowing you to set up email notifications for assignments. Students will be held accountable for their assignments and are encouraged to communicate with their teachers with questions or concerns. If your student does not have internet access, packets have been made available for them to pick up in the high school office. Alternatively, students were given a letter on Friday, March 13 discussing where they could obtain a computer. (A copy of the flyer will be posted in Google Classroom.) If your child was not in school on Friday and did not make arrangements to pick up materials, please contact the high school office at (440)233-6313.
That being said, we understand that this situation is far from ideal for learning mathematics. Your math teachers have been collaborating and working hard to find activities and lessons that are appropriate for this type of situation. We are all in uncharted waters here. Our plan is to utilize technologies, such as Delta Math, Edpuzzle, Khan Academy, Desmos, and Youtube to provide support during this process. If possible, please download the free app CamScanner. which allows students to take a picture of their work and submit through Google Classroom. The benefit to using the app is that it turns the picture into a pdf and is easier to read. We plan to participate in enrichment activities, standardized test practice, review activities and new content with plenty of appropriate support. We know many of the students are concerned about how this will work and what to expect. We will be communicating with the students often and making sure they understand our expectations. We ask for your patience in this time.
We strongly encourage students to follow the suggestions about social distancing and all recommendations from Governor DeWine and the CDC.
If you are experiencing any personal or emotional concerns, please contact the guidance department.
The Clearview Mathematics Department wishes you the best during this time.
